Modesto is an agri-business town of 200,000. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley midway between San Francisco and Yosemite National Park. Residents enjoy community cultural activities in Modesto as well as access to a wide variety of urban, coastal, and mountain recreational opportunities, all within a two-hour drive of Modesto. Modesto has a civic symphony, an opera company, several theater companies, and a performing arts center.
Housing costs in Modesto are low by California standards. Apartments start at about $800 per month and houses at about $1300 per month for rentals. Homes for purchase start at about $250,000 and go up, depending on size and location.
The Modesto area offers many opportunities for higher education. In town, we have Modesto Junior College and Brandman University, which offers degrees for those working full or part time. Then 20 minutes away to the south there is California State University, Stanislaus. The University of Pacific (a private college) is located 45 minutes away to the north in Stockton. UC Merced, located 40 minutes to the south, offers a wide range of educational courses.
Stanislaus County is the 7th fastest growing county in California, and Modesto is the 16th city to exceed 200,000. The population is ethnically diverse, including a large and active Hispanic community, as well as immigrants from South-East Asia who have established a large and vital network in our community, and many recent immigrants from Eastern Europe, various regions of Africa and the Middle East.
Recreational areas abound in and around Modesto area including Yosemite, the Northern California coastline, the historical and picturesque Gold Country, the California Delta waterways, biking and hiking trails throughout the city, and unique items including white water rafting and Frisbee Golf and much more.
Socially Modesto has an active community theater bringing in many renowned musicians and art films, as well as several multiplex movie theaters, a number of night clubs offering a wide variety of entertainment from bands and vocalist to comedy, and lots of places to karaoke. The Modesto Symphony is quite active and includes many musicians from the San Francisco Symphony due to the high quality of the conductors and guest soloists. The Gallo Center for the Arts brings international artists to the Central Valley.
