Program Call Information

Medicine Call: Each of two medicine team consists of one resident from each PGY level. Every fourth day a given junior resident is the primary admitting resident, staying for a full 12 hours with his or her supervising resident. However, the night float team takes over, seven nights per week. Therefore, there are no shifts more than 12 hours in medicine, plus 1-4 hours of transition care.

Peds Service: Our inpatient resident team, comprised of one resident from each PGY level, covers the service during the day for 12 hours. Residents alternate days begin on call for admissions until 7 p.m.

OB/Gyn: PGY-1 level residents cover the labor deck in 12 hour shifts, either day or night. PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents on OB rotation typically cover one 24 hour shift per week, followed by a day of rest.

Night-Float: Our program relies on a night float team seven nights per week for the adult medicine, CCU, and peds services. The team consists of PGY-3 and PGY-2 resident, and a PGY-1 resident on Saturday nights.

Home call: Almost all admitting or call duties are fulfilled by residents while staying on site in the hospital. With permission from PGY-3 residents who have fulfilled certain minimum requirements may take OB call at home during the night.
